Book Sell

We love reading in Kawaka.
A fantastic way to share our love of books is to have a "Book Sell" sharing time.
We write about our books and share our book reports with enthusiasm, highly recommending to others.

Great work sharing :)

Hamster Wheel Challenge

While half of Kawaka were at the soccer tournament we took the opportunity to have some fun of our own.
The hamster wheel challenge.
In this challenge we worked in teams to create a paper hamster wheel for three very large hamsters.
We used six double sheets of newspaper, tape and scissors and then raced each other in teams.

Welcome back to school

10 October 2016

Kia ora,
Welcome back to our final term for the year. Term 4 is packed with exciting class, sporting and community events such as the ‘Southern Zone’ soccer tournament, Mitre 10 ‘Tough Kids’ and Pet day, to name a few.

Kawaka are also pleased to welcome Roxanne and her family to our team.
Our Inquiry this term focuses on the Key Competency ‘Thinking’. We will be developing our skills in formulating and posing questions. These skills will assist with problem solving and developing as better learners. We will explore ‘Thinking’ through a variety of learning experiences that include Science and Technology. We look forward to sharing our learning on the Kawaka blog.

Homework layout is a little different, with the full terms Basic Facts and Reading Log on two separate pages. We hope this assists with making Homework tracking and home/school communication easier.

We are also fortunate to have another term of Mathletics to trial for FREE. This is a great opportunity for students to enjoy some ‘Sandpit’ time (exploring) and to gain confidence in navigating their way through the programme. Mathletics will continue as part of the classroom programme and homework practice next year, thanks to our amazing FOS.

In week 3 our Key Competency Rubric homework challenge will go home. Activities will be based around the five Key Competencies.
We will brainstorm a variety of activities to include with Kawaka students this week. Please feel free to share your ideas with us (by the end of this week), via email or your child’s homework book.

If you have any questions, cares or concerns at any time, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Homework books will be coming home on Tuesday.

Kind regards,
Mrs. K & Mrs. B
